If it wasn’t coming from the Discovery Channel, I’d be inclined to think this story was fake. Actually, I’m still inclined to think it’s fake. They’re saying that in Britain they found a piece of Roman pottery depicting a gladiator in a g-string, holding a whip.

The image represents the first known depiction of a gladiator in such revealing attire. It adds to the evidence that ancient Romans viewed gladiators not only as fearless warriors, but also as sex symbols.

See, now all your Russell Crowe fantasies are historically justified.

  1. The ancient Romans were pretty kinky. I just came back from “Campo Dunum” the Roman museum of my German hometown (also called Campo Dunum by the Romans). Their ancient uhm, toys, can compete with anything you can find in the tenderloin. Salve! :-)
